Based on the comments I received, I couldn’t resist making a couple of improvements to the Slashdot Live Comment Tree script. I added a “Live Comment Tree” menu in the little toolbar right above the comments. You can use it to expand/collapse all comments or to collapse comments selectively based on their rating. You can also choose to collapse nested comments only. Note that the selection is stored persistently and will be used automatically on all subsequent comment pages.

I also changed the @include settings as various commenters pointed out that it wasn’t covering all of the appropriate pages. Thanks! Let me know if there are further problems.

The script can be downloaded at the same location as the old version.

  2. Thanks! I added it myself but somehow the change didn’t stick. Maybe someone made a conflicting change to the wiki at the same time.

  4. The new dropdown menu only shows for me when I’m not logged in to Slashdot.

  5. Hmmm, works fine for me. Do you have special settings that might change the HTML of the page (like light mode) and only kick in if you are logged in?

  6. I just installed the script and if you use “light” mode on Slashdot then your script does not appear to work.

  8. I just wanted to thank you for this script. It has completely changed my Slashdot experience.

I really hate it when someone asks a good question on Ask Slashdot and then all the comments go off into left field. With this extension I can just skip the whole discussion and continue reading the relevant stuff.

    Thanks again

  9. Slashdot - Single Page View

Here’s the latest addition to my “single page view” series, this time for slashdot. Slashdot - Single Page View allows you to expand comments without reloading the page. Clicking a “x replies beneath your current threshold” link will fetch the rel…
