We have released a new version (0.33) today and are inviting a new batch of a few hundreds of testers today. If you are already running AllPeers, go to “Tools/Extensions” in your Firefox menu to install the new version. We are working to make the upgrade alert more visible to the user.

Invitation emails will go out this afternoon (CET). As always, the purpose of this is to test AllPeers, track down bugs and collect feedback and features requests from early users.

This new version fixes a few minor bugs and introduces new features like the ability to attach a message with the shared files. This one was requested a lot by our existing users (and by us too) so we moved it up the (5 pages long) features list.

Thanks for the feedback from existing users and we look forward to welcoming the new testers on board our Support forums.

  1. What will be the topic of mail? I got ton and a half of spam in my box I whuld not like to overlook this one and delete by accident.

  2. I personally think all the faithful readers of this blog should be given an invitation :-) I check it out daily.

    Comment by @lexis — 5/12/2006 @ 2:20 pm

  3. GG: The email is entitled
“Your invitation for the AllPeers private beta program”

    You can’t miss it ;-)

@lexis: We have actually talked about that internally and I am for it. There are however logistic issues attached to the idea and it would break our invitation process. We’ll try to plan it for the next batch but I can’t promisse anything.

    Comment by Cedric — 5/12/2006 @ 3:03 pm

  4. @lexis definitely has the right idea! :)

Doesn’t it make sense that those of us who check this daily would be the most likely to give useful feedback?

    Comment by Michael — 5/12/2006 @ 4:11 pm

  5. I totally agree. Please post a comment with your email address (it isn’t displayed but we can see it) if you didn’t (this means you, GG :-) ) and we’ll try to make this happen. As Cedric says, can’t promise anything but the idea does make sense to me. Make sure you registered with your email on the website and use the same email here (obviously).

  8. Inspired thinking as always, Matt. I hope it’s simple enough to send out a few extra keys and that I make the cut (fingers crossed). Looking forward to it.

  9. Is there any chance we could get a glimpse at the “to-do” list? Maybe your top five items you are working on? Top five wishes? The hints you’ve given over the past several weeks have whetted our appetites. It would be great to have something tangible to dream about and see realized in the near future.

  14. Didn’t get an invite :(. That sucks… I would really like to try this program out, seems private like I want it to be. Seems like the people that post on the blog dont get one :-/.

  15. Also how many got an invite for this?

    Comment by Progz — 5/13/2006 @ 2:51 am

  16. I am totally for this daily reader preference idea. I am avid reader on this blog and have tons of suggestions and wish list but cannot give any meaningful feedback without seeing it.

Thanks, and the plugin looks sweet!

  28. Well, I’ve been reading this blog every day, and checking it more like 4 times a day. This is partly due to the intense boredom at work (I really need a new job), but I know I would find Allpeers really useful. I throw a lot of files back and forth as I have a web design project which I work on with my home computer and at work (when I should be doing ‘work’) :)

    Comment by GSG — 5/15/2006 @ 10:14 am

  29. Would be also glad to receive an invit.
Ne serait-ce que par solidarité hexagonale ;)

  30. Thanks to everyone who posted here. We’ll make sure that you all get into the next batch of invites, which should be at the end of the week. Since we promised this to regular readers of the blog, I think we can safely assume everyone has spoken up by now so we’ll now return to inviting on a first-come, first-serve basis as before. So future commenters won’t make it into this batch, though we might repeat the offer at a later date.

    Comment by Matt — 5/15/2006 @ 12:48 pm

  31. Damn, I was offline all the weekend. Could I still join the batch too?

    Comment by funTomas — 5/15/2006 @ 1:34 pm

  32. No sweat Tomas, I’ll squeeze you in since I know you post here quite often.

    Comment by Matt — 5/15/2006 @ 3:42 pm

  33. End of the week! You promised. I will keep BlackBerry on vibrate mode until then…

    Comment by Brian — 5/15/2006 @ 5:08 pm

  34. Hm. If all commenters here get an invite, does that mean that those in queue via the mailed beta invitation a month ago will get one as well?

    Comment by Fredrik — 5/15/2006 @ 5:28 pm

  35. Been waiting and reading here for awhile now. Can’t wait to get the invite so I can beta test too. Looks like things are progressing fast though.

  36. I hope I am not too late as well. I read this blog a few times a week and just checked it this afternoon. If you could find in your heart to invite me I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

  37. Blackball these latecomers, Matt! AllPeers is a meritocratic e-society to which the hoi polloi need not apply; true Peer Pressure denizens only, please. [/irony]

    Comment by Michael — 5/15/2006 @ 10:12 pm

  38. What are you talking about Michael? I read here all the time. This is a BLOG meant to be read and thats what I do OFTON. Just because I don’t reply to every blog post doesn’t make me a “latecomer”.

    Comment by DeVS — 5/15/2006 @ 11:52 pm

  39. I like the Idea of having a great sharing tool for firefox. I definitly would like to test it.

    Comment by FraTi — 5/16/2006 @ 12:34 am

  40. they should have a forum for people that are not in the beta for them to talk on. this blog typing is getting old and bad.

    Comment by Progz — 5/16/2006 @ 4:00 am

  41. Two minor bugs have been fixed as shown in the todo list here http://www.allpeers.com/download/release_notes.htm

But still major bugs seem to be there like no pause/resume/cancel of downloads, no bittorrent.

Matt and Cedric, How much time will these take to get fixed. Please don’t reply that they will be fixed soon, you say an year I will wait for an year.

    Comment by Aseem Behl — 5/16/2006 @ 10:07 am

  42. @Fredrik: good question.

    Comment by marcel — 5/16/2006 @ 8:01 pm

  43. I got an invite to join the beta testing back on April 6th and filled it out, and I never heard back…

    Comment by Lauren — 5/16/2006 @ 8:34 pm

  44. We’re sending out invites to everyone who filled out the form following our April 6th mail, but there were 10,000 people so it will take a while to invite everyone. We’ve been getting a lot of feedback from the first couple of batches, and we need to digest that. We’re working hard to get the software in everyone’s hands, don’t worry!

    Comment by Matt — 5/16/2006 @ 8:50 pm

  45. Aseem - I can’t promise 100%. This is software, after all. Scheduling is still something of a black art. But I think next couple of weeks for both.

    Comment by Matt — 5/16/2006 @ 8:51 pm

  46. I hope it is fixed that soon and I hope try it soon as well.

I have following updates on allpeers since its early days and have been promoting it on other places like stumbleupon.

I hope this thing gets success.

    Comment by Aseem Behl — 5/16/2006 @ 9:24 pm

  47. I’m dying for an invite too…

  48. I, too wanted, to test your program how it can be made?

  49. I would be so honored to be part of the hundreds of people testing this version. Could you please add me?

    all the best…

  50. I’m closing comments on this post. We’re making good progress towards a version which will enable us to accelerate the pace at which we send out invitations, so please be patient a bit longer if you don’t get included in the next batch. Thanks!
