The Road to Beta

W00t! We released AllPeers 0.37 a couple of days ago, and we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our private beta testers. We’re focusing right now on the following areas: reducing memory consumption, improving performance, providing more feedback to the user about what AllPeers is doing (sharing, downloading, etc.) and beefing up our data center in preparation for the public launch. Version 0.37 already represents a major step forward in all of these areas. So if you’re using AllPeers right now, don’t expect to see new features between now and the public beta, but do expect to see continual improvement on these points.

We’re getting close, people.

  4. Maybe this wasn’t clear, but the four areas I mentioned were our focus for 0.37 as well. Also we made some improvements to the tray icon behavior (it can be turned off, for starters). No big new features, a lot of improvements under the hood.

There should be something on the forums about this. Sorry, that was an oversight… you can’t imagine how busy we are right now. I’ll deal with it.

  5. Can’t wait to get my hands on the public-beta! :-)
    Something i noticed recently:
If i start firefox a window asks for the password for the master security device, i typed my master-pw in but when i try to open a protected site i’m asked again for my master-pw …..

  8. This is what i like about you, you are too quick and always concerned about the demands and needs of your readers. Absolutely wonderful!!! :-) Thanx for this latest version!!

  9. Zach - good question, and I’m not sure that I’m the right one to answer it. The key difference may be that Pando piggybacks on email, whereas we integrate into a web browser (Firefox). Considering our planned evolution, the latter makes a lot more sense (and will be more and more compelling as we add new features).

  10. this has been discussed so much, and i still have not received a beta invite for probably 4-6 months when word first began spreading.

sad to say, at this point, i almost don’t care anymore…

  11. Hey guys, I want to apologize. I got my beta today, and it’s working just as advertised. I’m having a great time. upload speeds are slow, but that’s due to my fascist-ish ISP. great product. i know it’s been a long time, but it turns out we’ve actually been waiting for something that is worth the wait.
Ophelia, write me at curtis.jarrell@gmail.com and i’ll give you an invite or two.

  13. Hi, Allpeers staff. This program looks awesome and I’ve been dying to beta test it ever since I found out about it (around feb. or mar.), so if you could find it in your hearts to invite me, that would be great!

  14. I am having problems downloading the Allpeers extension, firefox gives me a ‘Download error’ message. Is this something anyone else is facing too ?

  15. Currently running 0.38 and still suffering from slugish behaviour due to sharing a huge folder (hunderds of files across several sub-folders). From the AP formu I learned, you’re working on it. When this issue is cleared, I believe the AP will be perfect for me.

  16. There are so many of us waiting to be added to the beta… I’m not sure it’s gonna happen.

Disappointing when you wait for months and months…and keep checking this blog…and nothing.

    Geez. Help a brother out.

  17. ok, I’ve update but have same problem, this is , I can not add anyone or invite anybody to share files with my activation code.

How could I add some person to my contacts ? (activation code seems to work but only for my)

Mozilla does not respond some times.

  18. Newser - you might try clearing your cache and trying again. If that doesn’t work, try downloading the file directly (right-click and Save Link As…) and the install it by opening the file with File/Open. I’m not sure what causes this, but it’s happened to a couple of people. We’re moving to a new hosting provider for our download which will hopefully solve the problem.

  19. Still waiting for my invite…

  20. Thanks for the invite! Loving the beta. As you say in the main page, there’s some features it would be nice to have re. feedback, but it does work fine as-is and anything else will be an improvement on an already great thing.

One little snag I’m hitting is the “Download Whole Album” option gets me a piece of code - I have to open each file on a tab to start downloading them.

Is anyone else seeing this happen?

  21. Maybe because you have NoScript installed? If so, this is a known issue that we are working on.

    Comment by Matt — 8/15/2006 @ 11:50 pm

  22. Thanks, Matt, that’s exactly it. I’ve got NoScript installed. Disabling it to use allpeers and putting it back up once sharing is done or transfers are started works.

    Comment by Diego — 8/16/2006 @ 7:52 pm

  23. Cool. We think we’ve fixed the problem so hopefully this will be a non-issue in the next version.
