Screen Capture Sharing
I discovered today a feature which I had not realize was in AllPeers (Why am I the last one to know these things I ask you!).
Matt was doing a demo today for someone and said: “One other cool thing about AllPeers is that sharing screen captures is now a no-brainer. Press the “Prt Sc” key on your keyboard, click on the “Share” button and “Paste from Clipboard”. That’s it“.
If you are already using AllPeers I encourage you to try it out. It’s really cool and so easy.
By the way, in case you did not know either, you can also select any text from a Webpage and just drag it onto the Share form to share the text. This one I already knew about it. Did you?

Line and paragraph breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed, HTML allowed: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <code> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

Only problem is that the screen capture most likely will be saved in bmp format (uncompressed). I haven’t used this software but I know how the clipboard works (and how p2p and networks work).
Maybe the software should add extra support for screenshots so that it get converted to jpeg automaticly by default (and give an option to leave it as bmp)

Snag-it is much better

jpg is the worst you can make! screenshot compressed with jpg are ugly³. take png, which is better and generates smaller files.

Yes, a default file format of PNG would be ideal. Perhaps with an option to save in other formats such as GIF or JPEG.
Regarding Kho’s comment on SnagIt, indeed it is an awesome little program. One of the few Windows programs I really miss since my migration to Linux two years ago. Would certainly be useful for AllPeers developers to have a look as it could foster some other good ideas regarding screen and media capture.

It saves it as a .JPG and it looks pretty good actually.

Neither JPEG nor PNG produces better results (quality & file size) in all cases. It totally depends on the source image.

Why not try shup? It’s fast, small, and easy on system resources. shup lets you define a global hotkey to capture the focused window (you can capture the full desktop as well), save it to PNG, and upload it to stashbox.org. It then places the resulting URL in your clipboard for easy pastin’.
The next version will have more hotkey features, some speed improvements, and hopefully an image preview window.
I’d appreciate any feedback you have as well.

i’ll add the the many programs suggested: purrint. small, simple, low memory footprint. displays a thumbnail first, sends to clipboard, printer or file, JPG/PNG/BMP.

And I add my favourite: MS Paint! Already installed, freeware, easy to use, modifing of image possible, too! This is the killer app for screenshots! Simply click “Print” key and paste it into Paint!

Where is the forum?
If allpeers is serious about improving, you seriously need a forum.
And if there is a forum, it needs to be in the top level navigation.

Yes there are a lot of way to take screen capture. That’s not the point of that post.
The keyword here is SHARING. It sounds like iChat does that too but being on Windows, I don’t know any software which allows the sharing of screen captures in such an easy way without first saving a file somewhere onto my hard drive.
Anyway, this is just a resulting feature of being able to share the content of the clipboard.

I tried this hint with both Windows and OS X version. Sadly, if it works in Windows, it doesn’t work in OS X. What does it mean ? I don’t want a “Skype effect” where the Win version is the only up-to-date one and the other versions get left behind.

Use screenshot2file to make it’s easy and fast.
