AllPeers v0.53, AKA the Firefox 2.0 Version
That’s right, we’re now Firefox 2.0 compatible. In addition, AllPeers v0.53 has the following nifty new features:
- Displays download speed and estimated time in transfers page.
- Files are not marked as viewed until they have finished downloading.
- Clicking on a shared link marks it as viewed.
- Preview/next buttons for viewing albums.
- Toolbar buttons can be placed in other toolbars.
- Availability of new versions is displayed in the navigator.
After much soul searching we’ve removed the system tray icon entirely for the time being. It’s been too much of an effort to maintain it and ensure compatibility with each new version of Firefox. In addition, we’re not sure that the current approach of adding an AllPeers icon to Firefox directly is the right one. We’ll be replacing the icon once these issues have been resolved.
UPDATE: We’ve had some reports of trouble downloading the Mac version. I think there might be a problem on the server, and I’m checking with the Mozilla team about this. I have also heard reports of successful installation, so if it works then great. One thing that might help while we chase this down is to download the file to disk and install from there (using File/Open).
UPDATE: Okay, everything should work now. It seems like the update on the Mozilla server wasn’t entirely finished when they greenlighted v0.53. Thanks to the Mozilla server team for dealing with this so quickly.

Installed the FF 2.0 compatible version and after restarting Firefox it crashed immediately. I had to go to safe mode and disable AllPeers altogether before I could get to Firefox. I hope you fix whatever’s wrong as soon as possible.

“possible corrupted download”: the 0.53 doesn’t want at all to install on my FF2… (Mac OS)
Comment by Florent — 10/26/2006 @ 10:35 am
As Florent mentioned above, 0.53 seems corrupted - only 3.98MB available if saved locally.
Comment by funTomas — 10/26/2006 @ 10:45 am
funTomas - were you unable to install the Windows version? 3.98Mb is the correct size.

MKR - I would like to try to figure out why your Firefox crashed. Please post a report to our support forums and we can take a closer look.

Finally! 6.8 MB, wow…

Running XP Pro. ‘Firefox could not install the file … because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)-261′.
Hope this helps.

Which is its size? 3.99 KB or 6.8KB.
I only can get the 3.99 KB.
Comment by Matachin — 10/26/2006 @ 4:01 pm
Getting the same error at David Smith. Whether download from site or update through Firefox Add-on window. If file size is an issue, mine is 4.1KB.
Comment by Dan — 10/26/2006 @ 5:46 pm
I had the same issue as others commented while downloading. I just want to be sure that the only file available works for XP.
Comment by Isabelle — 10/26/2006 @ 6:47 pm
I must add I’m running XP Pro, and can’t get it to work.

Same problem for me on XP pro (”invalid file hash”)
Comment by Stef — 10/26/2006 @ 7:59 pm
idem : invalid file hash …
Comment by tomz — 10/26/2006 @ 8:11 pm
OK, now I did download the xpi (3.98MB in total) and have updated successfully (XP Pro) I had expected somehow 5.4MB before.
Comment by funTomas — 10/26/2006 @ 9:40 pm
Somehow mine has been updated. Probably should say thanks for the hard work behind the scenes. Look forward to the enhancements, as well.
Comment by Dan — 10/26/2006 @ 11:20 pm
running Win XP I get the invalid hash mark error and the update will not install

How do we download 0.5.2 if we don’t want to upgrade to Firefox 2.0 yet ?

The installation process worked fine for me. Right now I’m looking for people to actually share with, so I would suggest to find new friends in the
AllPeers group on last.fm.

Will it work with OS X 10.2.8 on a Power PC G4? I tried installing it and I received a message saying that it only works with 32 bit version of Firefox?

I can’t seem to download AllPeers on Firefox for the Mac — does AllPeers work on Firefox at all? I’s presume it does.. what am I doing wrong?
Comment by Debajit — 11/2/2006 @ 11:03 pm
Alright.. I managed to download it from Mozilla’s site.. but the buttons on the Allpeers toolbar don’t seem to work at all for me (Firefox/mac). In fact nothing much seems to work at all — except for the Preferences window.
Comment by Debajit — 11/2/2006 @ 11:56 pm
Debajit,
Can you post about your problem on our support forums so we can figure out what’s going wrong? It might be a conflict with another extension.

I’m taken by surprise. I don’t want a Google dashboard. Will someone please tell this old man how to get a reasonably old-fashioned-looking browser out of this mess. This is not an onsult — but we older folks don’t adjust well to sudden changes.

Looks like Allpeers is crashing for a few people in Windows XP. I was running the last version of Firefox when Allpeers started crashing; I reinstalled and downloaded FF 2.0 and the new AP extension, but it still crashes. At the moment, Allpeers is disabled, because every time I start up Firefox 2.0 it tries to connect to the network and bingo — Firefox ‘has to close’.
However, this is a really wonderful thing you’ve created. I like it a lot.
Comment by az — 11/8/2006 @ 2:47 pm
Do you have NoScript installed? The only reports of crashing I’ve heard are when both AP and NS are installed.
Comment by Matt — 11/8/2006 @ 2:59 pm
Nope, no Noscript.
Comment by az — 11/9/2006 @ 3:06 pm
Well perhaps it has the same root cause as the NoScript problem anyway. Hopefully we’ll manage to fix this for the next version (and hopefully that will make your crash go away).
