Mozpad Logo?
Our graphic designer, Sasha, whipped up this adorable logo for Mozpad. Not that this is the most important consideration right now, but we’re allowed to have a little fun, aren’t we? I’m curious to know: do we love it? Hate it? Or are we profoundly indifferent?

Isn’t it too serious? =) Cat is fine, but I would use it for some software for 5-year children.

I like it. I would put it on a mozilla “minefield” globe background to retain a little mozilla identity. (Note: the minefield logo is not trademarked, it’s lgpl/mpl licensed)

I wince when I see this representing us.

What is it with you and those cats…
But seriously, this logo does not give any graphical hint about what organisation it is representing. Unfortunately, I don’t have any better ideas.
But something which has to do with Mozilla (i.e. something with an already recognised Mozilla logo), and something about leverage would be useful. Now, how to depict this is an entirely different problem.

Dont like it.
Suggest mozpad is not so far from launchpad which is required for a rocket so the rocket could be used but agree integrating it with a globe and/or mozilla image makes sense.
I love cats but cannot see any relevance whatsoever here.
I also think it’s a very important consideration because a good logo gives people a mind’s eye association with the entity and could - if done right - provide a succinct explanation of what mozpad is about.
Unfortunately the main cues Sasha would have to work with are the old mozilla gorrila, the mozilla font and the red colour.
How about this:
- sphere at the bottom, representing the earth
- smaller inner circle at the top of the sphere with the name mozpad wrapped around it
- rocket with the word mozilla on above the pad shooting up
- all the existing ‘products’ from mozilla shooting off to each side of the rocket as stars/burnoff/fireworks
This creates a link with the browser origins (the sphere can be a globe), indicates where mozpad sits in the scheme of things (focusing on the foundation or launchpad for many things to be built on top of the mozilla [rocket] ‘engine’) and highlights the existing ‘things’ already built from the engine.
Furthermore this design would encourage the concept of mozpad becoming the group behind mozilla not as a browser, not as an application launchpad but, wait for it … a platform!

Put this on the site and no-one from a corporate environment will ever be able to get management to take XULRunner development seriously.

Bah, okay, maybe he’s a bit too cute. I’ll suggest to Sasha that he try something closer in style to the Firefox logo.
