1. Protect all you’ve worked for – If you can’t practice because of a serious illness or injury, you could be in trouble. That said having some protection is important. You also want to be sure and protect your reputation. In the day of the Internet, many pros have had their reputations challenged for one reason or another. 2. Treat your patients with care – You can never lose sight of how key it is to treat your patients with great service. Some physicians get the reputation for not listening all that well. You never want a patient to feel as if they did not get your best when they came in to see you. Take the time to answer their questions and reassure them that they are at the right place for the care they need.
3. Hire the right staff – Given you have people working under you, it is critical you hired the right folks from day one. From the person greeting patients at the front desk to the assistant working with them before and after you see them, the right hires are key. You do not want some patients going to other physicians. That is because they were unhappy with the treatment they received from one or more of your staff. While medical experience is of course important, people skills are critical too. You need employees who can relate to others and treat them with respect. Given you might get a few patients who are not always easy to handle, patience is important to for you and your team.
